Don't Watch The Markets Too Closely

March 06, 2023

I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from Warren Buffett with you: “Remember that the stock market is a manic depressive.” I know it may sound a bit odd, but hear me out.

What Warren is saying is that the stock market can be pretty unpredictable at times. Prices can swing drastically in response to even the smallest news, and it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement (or panic) of it all. But that's not always the best approach.

Instead, Buffett advises us to focus on the bigger picture and keep an eye on our long-term goals. It's important to remember that short-term market movements aren't always indicative of long-term trends.

Another great example of this comes from Sir John Templeton, a mutual fund manager who was known for his international investing strategies. He used to intentionally read The Wall Street Journal a few days late to avoid making emotional decisions based on headlines.

So, as you navigate the world of investing, I encourage you to take a cue from these two investment legends. Try not to get too caught up in the daily ups and downs of the stock market, and instead focus on the bigger picture and what's ahead.
